The Rahr-West Art Museum is pleased to be able to provide art instruction for the home school community. The Home School Young Artists group may be divided into age groups, based on the number of participants, in order to ensure the best possible art instruction. The children will experience all areas of art, from painting to ceramics, using the Rahr-West Art Museum's permanent collection as examples of the various media.
Winter 2019 Classes
Winter Session (January & February): $40 RWAM Members | $80 Nonmembers Monthly: $30 RWAM Members | $60 Nonmembers
January: Clay Loom Weaving January 8, 15, 22 & 29 Learn the art of weaving and make a clay loom.
February: Mimicking the Masters February 5, 12, 19 & 26 Use a variety of media to learn new techniques including paper collage, blow painting and more, and mimic some masters from our collections including Sonia Delauney, R. C. Gorman, and Kenneth Nolan.
Spring 2019 Classes
Spring Session (March-May): $60 RWAM Members | $120 Nonmembers Monthly: $30 RWAM Members | $60 Nonmembers
March: Painting Resist March 5, 12, 19 & 26 Learn the steps in creating a tempera India ink resist. Discover why this is such a great technique in painting.
April: Mimicking the Masters April 2, 9, 23 & 30 Use a variety of media to learn new techniques using oil pastels, water color and acrylic paints, and mimic some masters from our collections including Schomer Lichtner, Henri Matisse, and William Bloom.
May: Ceramics May 7, 14, 21 & 28 Use Mishima, a technique of inlaying into the main body of a piece of pottery, to create a ceramic plate. Students will also learn to fold clay and create a pocket, making a fun and functional wall hanging.
