“Failure Is Impossible!”/Susan B. Anthony In Her Own Words

Thursday, September 19, 2019

Through a series of interviews, dialogues, and narrated episodes, Susan B. Anthony—as portrayed by Bev Smith in MPL’s Balkansky Community Room at 6 PM on Thursday, September 19—comes to life in her crusade for human rights, particularly those of women. This dramatic portrayal by the Heritage Players of Green Bay brings this dynamic, tireless woman to life for contemporary audiences. In 1872, Anthony was arrested for voting for a representative in Congress. Her trial attracted nationwide attention. She died fourteen years before Congress passed the Nineteenth Amendment, finally giving women the right to vote in 1920. By the way, Wisconsin was the first state in the union to ratify the amendment on June 13, 1919. In her presentation, Bev will incorporate material she has researched on Anthony’s visits to an 1886 series of Women’s Suffrage Conventions held in Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Eau Claire and Green Bay.
