How does a
question and answer get posted here?
What
is going to happen at Union Park?
What
is the latest news on the Aquatic Center?
How
do I speak to the City Council?
Why
can’t I talk to my alderman about my assessment?
This site is meant to provide answers to general
questions that come from many residents of District 3. These questions may have been by phone,
mail, or in person. It is my hope
that, over time, many common interests will be addressed
here.
Your individual questions, concerns, and opinions are
important! They help me represent
you. I encourage you to stay in
contact with me. Remember to
provide your complete name, address, and phone number or e-mail address to
ensure a response.

All members of the City Council are slated to be a
member of the Board of Review or to serve as an alternate. The Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s
“Guide for Board of Review Members”
advises owners- “Do not contact a board of review member or give them
information about the objection except at a board of review hearing.” You really can’t state much more than
you think your assessment is too high, or too low, without getting specific
about your objection.
If you think the assessment is in error, you should call
1-888-543-1493 and set up an
informal review to discuss it in detail. Be sure to bring information that
supports your concerns with your assessment.
Failing that, you can file your intent to object with
the City Clerk. This must be done
at least 48 hours before the Board of Review meets on 8/22/07 (8:00 am). You also have to fill out an approved
Objection Form and have it filed with the City Clerk no later than 2 hours after
the start of proceedings on 8/22/07.

This is the answer to the
question.
The City Council welcomes public
comments. A portion of the second
Council meeting of each month (the 3rd Monday of the month) is open
to public comment. Please contact
City Hall if you’d like to speak at this meeting. It is also helpful to have copies of
your comments for the Council members.
Be aware that much discussion on
issues of interest is done in committee meetings held prior to meetings of the
entire Council. These meetings are
open to all (with rare, noticed exceptions). You are welcome to attend and be heard
at these meetings. Again, please
contact City Hall in advance if you would like to address the committee.

This is the answer to the
question.
There is a long-term plan for Union Park. I will have a detailed response from the
Parks and Recreation Department to post here soon.
The City of Manitowoc Parks and Recreation Department
recognizes the need to re-landscape the old tennis courts at Union Park. Improvements for the park will
again be placed in the 2007-2011 Capital Improvement Plan. This is then reviewed by the Mayor and
Common Council.
Improvements
will include removing of the old pavement, re-sloping the area, seeding and
adding benches and trees to bring this area into usable green space. This project will be ear-marked for the
2009 budget schedule.
As
always, this plan is contingent on the amount of funds available and the
decision of the Mayor and Common Council to allow funding for improvement
projects.
