Indian Effigy Mounds of Wisconsin with Bob Birmingham at Manitowoc Public Library

Monday, November 12, 2018

More ancient Native American mounds were built in Wisconsin than in any other region of North America?an astonishing 15 to 20,000, of which 4,000-plus remain. Most impressive are the effigy mounds—huge earthwork sculptures shaped like thunderbirds, water panthers, and more. Please join us for author and archeologist Robert Birmingham’s presentation on these historic, sacred places at Manitowoc Public Library on Monday, November 12th, from 6 to 7:30 PM in the Balkansky Community Room. Mr. Birmingham is the author of Spirits of Earth: The Effigy Mound Landscape of Madison and the Four Lakes, and coauthor of Aztalan: Mysteries of an Ancient Indian Town. Now retired, he served as the state archaeologist of Wisconsin for many years and received the Increase Lapham Research Medal from the Wisconsin Archeological Society. Admission is FREE!!!
