At a time when race relations in America have rapidly been moved from the back to the front burner, it not only seems topical, but essential that Manitowoc Public Library and Lakeshore Cinema offer “The Help” as the next installment in their “Book and a Movie” series. Set in Jackson, Mississippi, in the early-1960s, “The Help” explores the relationship between African-American maids in the employ of Caucasian households. Both the novel and the film raise a number of a number of pertinent, sometimes uneasy topics and on Monday, March 20th, those in attendance at Lakeshore Cinema will have the opportunity to compare and contrast these topics as they are presented in both the film and the novel. The cinematic version will be shown at 7 PM, with a discussion of the book versus the movie to follow. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library. Admission is FREE!!!
