September 16, 2019, All Day @ Manitowoc Public Library
All September long, when members of our community stop by MPL to sign-up for a new library card or renew an expired one, they’ll have the opportunity to spin the Prize Wheel at our First Floor Service Desk to win a fabulous prize. And here’s the best part—everyone’s a winner! Library Card Sign-Up Month is brought to you by the American Library Association and libraries nationwide. It’s a time when they all join together to remind parents, caregivers and students—pretty much everyone—that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” We don’t mean reading a book and seeing the movie based on said book. We’re talking explicitly about “First Man”—the biographical drama starring Ryan Gosling based on the novel “First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong, by James R. Hansen—that explores the life of astronaut, Neil Armstrong,, and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969. One huge question remains—which version does a better job of putting this tale before the public: the book or the movie? You’ll have the opportunity to discuss this oft-debated point if you attend Manitowoc Public Library’s “Book and a Movie” at Lakeshore Cinema—1118 Washington Street—on Monday, September 16 at 7 PM. Watch the movie and then participate in the discussion of the book versus the movie that follows. Books can be checked out prior to the screening at Manitowoc Public Library. Admission is FREE!!!
