Letter from the Manitowoc County Health Department
Dear Farm Market Vendors:
The seasonal retail foods sold at the farm market stands need to be safe for consumption by the public. The following lists and definitions should answer questions concerning what can and cannot be sold.
Raw agricultural products may be sold. These products are defined as: produce, dressed poultry raised by seller, graded eggs, honey and maple syrup (only ungraded maple syrup may be sold)
The following products may be sold but need to be properly licensed and prepared in a properly licensed facility as they are regulated by law:
- Bread
- Home bakery products
- Processed foods: jams, jellies, or any canned foods.
- Beef or pork
- Seafood
- Cheese
- Homemade candy
- Live animals
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Manitowoc County Health Department at (920) 683-4455 or Marla Bernhardt, Food Safety Inspector, DATCP, (920) 755-3125. We trust that with your cooperation the Farmers' Market can provide safe and healthy food to the residents of Manitowoc County.
