Wisconsin Sex Offender Registration Program
The Sex Offender Registration Program is a sensitive and emotional topic, especially when it is reported that a registered sex offender is moving into a Manitowoc neighborhood. Statistically as of July 1, 2011, there are one-hundred-five known registered sex offenders living in the City of Manitowoc.
In 1997 Wisconsin enacted the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law. Due to the provisions within the law, the Manitowoc Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections work together to monitor and track people convicted of sex crimes. The Department of Corrections also established the State of Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry web site, which provides sex offender information for police, victims, and the general public.
This web site is designed to enhance public safety by making the information contained in the Sex Offender Registry easily accessible to the public. The Manitowoc Police Department encourages residents to view the web site, which is designed to enhance public awareness about sexual violence and provide valuable information about the ways in which individuals and communities can protect themselves and those they love from acts of sexual violence.
