The City of Manitowoc Public Infrastructure Department provides multiple services. Snow plowing and removal is one of the most visible and important operations performed. The City of Manitowoc has approximately 381 lane miles of road for which the Streets and Sanitation Division is responsible for clearing. There are also several municipal parking lots and sidewalks in the business district and at each of the city buildings that the division is responsible for clearing in conjunction with the Parks Division. Because of this it is important to have standards and procedures so that there are reasonable and realistic expectations of the division's abilities. The City of Manitowoc will strive to maintain safe conditions for drivers observing winter driving conditions; however, this is not an absolute “bare pavement” policy.
