Rural Volunteer Program

Program Information

Eligibility

The Manitowoc County Aging and Disability Resource Center with the assistance of the Manitowoc County Mobility Manager provides transportation for ambulatory elderly and ambulatory disabled individuals living in rural Manitowoc County.

Determination

The Manitowoc County Aging and Disability Resource Center does not require an application for service. However, availability is limited to a maximum of six (6) ambulatory elderly and ambulatory disabled individuals. If seats are available, transportation may also be provided to low-income individuals.

Hours of Service

Service is available from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Service is not available on Saturdays or Sundays or on major holidays (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day).

Service Provisions

Service is available to various communities in rural Manitowoc County. The St. Nazianz and Valders area is serviced on Mondays, Kellnersville area on Tuesdays, Mishicot and Two Rivers on Wednesdays, Francis Creek and Rockwood on Thursdays, and Reedsville, Whitelaw, Cato and Branch on Fridays. There is a minimum of two (2) riders required per trip with a maximum of six (6) riders. Service may be cancelled for those days and areas in which the minimum rider requirement is not met unless it is for medical purposes.

Fares

The cash fare for transportation is $3.00 per ride ($6.00 round trip).

Scheduling a Trip

To schedule a trip, contact the Maritime Metro Transit Office at (920) 686-6977. Notify them you wish to schedule a trip. To assure quick and easy service, you are asked to have the following information easily accessible when making your reservation:
  • Name
  • Address
  • Community
  • Phone Number
  • Destination(s)
You should be ready at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled pick up time to ensure prompt and reliable service. We encourage you to call early to secure a trip.

In an effort to provide all individuals the necessary transportation, please be prompt in notifying the Aging and Disability Resource Center of any cancellations. You are required to notify of a cancellation no later than two (2) hours prior to the scheduled pick up time. An established pattern or practice of missed trips or "no shows" may lead to suspension.

Attendant/Companions

If you require a personal care attendant (PCA), one will be allowed to travel with you but your companion must pay the same fare. Additional companions may be allowed to travel with you on a space available basis. Arrangements for additional riders should be made when the trip is reserved and must have the same origin and destination as you do.
