Victory Gardens During WWII
Thursday, April 22, 2021
Gardening has primarily become a hobby. Not too long ago, gardens were a lifeline. During World War II, the United States government rationed food to ensure adequate meals for the military. To fill the bellies on the home front, Uncle Sam encouraged people to grow "victory gardens." Tune into Wisconsin Maritime Museum's "Victory Gardens" virtual presentation—Premiering on MPL’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary) on Thursday, April 22, at 6 PM—to learn about the garden propaganda and success. We hope this program prepares you for your personal war against the munchies. Grab & Go Seed Kits will be available at the Library’s Service Desk for those wishing to attend this virtual program and try their hand at some victorious gardening. The kits include cucumbers, lettuce, beans, and beets/radishes.
