The Rahr-West Art Museum, in association with Subfest, is pleased to bring to Wisconsin ‘Silent Service,’ a collection of 26 paintings from the U.S. Navy History and Heritage Command. This exhibition will be on view in the Rahr-West Art Museum’s Lounge Gallery from May 21 through September 17.
Branded as the “Silent Service,” submarines are known not only for keeping quiet regarding the duties they perform, but also how they move through the water. With their aerodynamic shape for speed and dark hull for camouflage these ships continue to be both a mystery and a fascination.
The exhibition features oil paintings created by CMDR John Charles Roach, (USNR-Ret.), longtime artist-in-residence for the U.S. Navy. Roach studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris before joining the Navy.
