The City of Manitowoc is partnering with Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership, Friends of Manitowoc River Watershed, and Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. to perform ecological restoration within portions of lower Henry Schuette Park.
Portions of lower Henry Schuette Park will be under construction starting Monday, February 7th and continuing for two to three weeks. Work will include mechanical removal of dense invasive species along with hand removal in more ecologically sensitive areas. Controlled burning of brush piles will be occurring concurrently with restoration efforts beginning near the parking area on Monday, February 7th. The park will remain open for recreational use throughout the project. All park users must be aware of and avoid all construction areas.
This restoration effort is part of a multi-year grant funded project focusing on removing invasive plant species, establishing and maintaining appropriate native plant communities, and improving public access to the unique natural features of Lower Henry Schuette Park.
