[ARCHIVED] Invasive Plant Control at Silver Creek Park - Sept. 11th & 12th

Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. will be applying a herbicide application to patches of Japanese Knotweed throughout portions of Silver Creek Park, 3001 South 10th Street, on Monday, September 11th and Tuesday, September 12th.  Areas that are treated will be identified with signs and park goers should avoid these areas until the signs are removed.  Treatments should not affect standard park activities.

Japanese knotweed is an invasive species that is becoming more prevalent throughout Wisconsin.  It is a bamboo-like plant with stems that grow up to 10 feet tall.  Left untreated, Japanese knotweed takes the place of native vegetation in the landscape creating an almost impenetrable wall of cane-like plants.

This restoration effort is part of a multi-year grant funded project in partnership with Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership and Stantec Consulting LLC for removal of Japanese Knotweed throughout Manitowoc County as well as surrounding counties.

For more information on Japanese knotweed, visit  Japanese Knotweed, a New Threat to Wisconsin's Waterways, Lakeshores, and Wetlands on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website.
