[ARCHIVED] Storm Damage Building Permits

Hail Damage Building Permits. In light of the recent storm damage, the Building Inspection Department reminds citizens that any contractor who performs siding, roofing, window and door replacement work shall obtain a permit and be properly credentialed as required by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. For a single or two-family dwelling the contractor shall possess both a State of Wisconsin Dwelling Contractor Credential and a State of Wisconsin Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Credential. For multi-family and commercial buildings the contractor shall possess a State of Wisconsin Building Contractor Registration or equivalent (July 2, 2013 -
2013 Wisconsin Act 20 invalidated the authority of the Department of Safety and Professional Services to require a Building Contractor Registration).

The state credential ensures the contractor is bonded and insured as required under S.101.654(2); it does not address competency.

It is suggested that you contact the Better Business Bureau at 1-800-273-1002 or www.wisconsin.bbb.org or Consumer Protection at 1-800-422-7128 or datcp.wi.gov
if you have any questions regarding a contractor’s qualifications.

A property owner performing the work his or herself to a single or two-family dwelling, that is owner occupied, will require a building permit only.

Those seeking additional information about contractor and permit requirements are encouraged to contact the Building Inspection Department at (920) 686-6940.
