The Rahr-West presents a major exhibition of artist Johann Berthelsen this winter. Johann Berthelsen: An American Artist exhibits more than 40 artworks as well as personal items from the Berthelsen Conservancy. The exhibition weaves through the artist’s life and career through multiple media: oil, watercolor, charcoal and pastel. Known in New York City for both his paintings of winter scenes and for his voice as an opera singer, Johann Berthelsen spent his childhood in Manitowoc. The artist’s son Lee Berthelsen says of the exhibit, “I know that my father would be extremely pleased to see this comprehensive exhibit of his work ‘going home’ to Manitowoc.” Johann Berthelsen: An American Artist will be on view in the Ruth West Gallery from November 16 to January 18.
