  2. Awful Art Contest @ Manitowoc Public Library

April 6, 2021, All Day @ This Virtual Event will be posted to MPL’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary/.

Gone are the days of feeling the pressure to make good art. Now is the time to make bad art on purpose! Think Picasso meets “Sharknado!” Or Monet meets “Plan 9 from Outer Space.” It’s the awful artistic expression equivalent of watching a bad movie—painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, or whatever way you decide to express yourself creatively. Email a picture of your appalling artwork to mgadzinski@manitowoc.org between March 17 and April 15. Everyone will be able to cast their vote for the best of the worst artwork in each category (Family, Teen, and Adult) on MPL's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary) via reaction (“Like,” Love,” etc.) starting on April 19. Winners will be generously rewarded for their stinky art skills! Visit www.manitowoclibrary.org/badart for all the details. Disclaimer: This contest is intended strictly for lighthearted fun!

  3. Blackout Poetry @ Manitowoc Public Library

April 6, 2021, All Day @ This Virtual Event will be posted to MPL’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary/

When ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ creativity ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ collides with the unforeseen ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ a single outcome ¦¦¦¦ infuses ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ the imagination: ¦¦¦¦¦¦ inspiration. A blackout poem is created when a poet takes a marker to an already established text—like a romance novel—and starts redacting words until a new poem is formed. Here’s an easy guide to creating Blackout Poetry: • Skim your page • Go through and circle the words or phrases you want to use • Go through and boldly box the words you’re keeping with pen or Sharpie • Read through your final poem • Go through and blacken all of the material not used • Bask in the glory of your creation To participate, send a photo of your completed Blackout Poem to Therese at thorsketter@manitowoc.org or drop it off at MPL’s Service Desk. Poems will be shared on MPL’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary) and also displayed at the Library through the end of April in celebration of National Poetry Month.
