    “Beneath the Flames” is a mesmerizing novel that encompasses love, race, and life from the point-of-view of an urban firefighter that brims with emotion and humanity. The author—Gregory Lee Renz, a retired firefighter from Milwaukee—will be at Manitowoc Public Library at 6 PM on Thursday, September 9, to talk about his book. This novel—a great family drama that’s based on his experiences as a firefighter—was written after his retirement. Mr. Renz will be signing books brought by attendees to the event, and he will be bringing copies of his book that may be purchased and signed, as well.

    Join naturalist, Matt Welter, as he returns to MPL at 6 PM on Thursday, September 9, for a Virtual Program that takes the tiny things in nature you can find here in Wisconsin and enlarges them for a better look--from slime molds that look like ice cream cones, to cups that grow only on acorn shells, to bugs that turn leaves into lace. Matt's program will make you want to get out your magnifying glasses and macro lenses and head outside! This Virtual Program will broadcast on MPL's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary) and our YouTube channel.
